E. starting from symbolic information we search for event start times into audio file. It is possible to search for all musical events of an ensemble score or only for a single instrument part. These indexes are then stored in the XML file as meta-data information about the audio file. 3 Performance Performance category embraces sub-symbolic formats such as MIDI files, Csound or SASL/SAOL (MPEG4). These formats can be seen as hybrid because they contain neither score nor pure audio information. They essentially encode information of what to play and how the sounds must be created.

These fundamental rules are supplemented by the possibility, for certain pieces, of a specific type of organisation of the framework-intervals with respect to the central core formed by the degrees sung by the various parts of the polyphony. The Bedzan’s conceptual model is dynamic. Musical Data Management module. The second step in this pre-processing phase is the extraction of source patterns. This activity is done by the Score Segmenter and Music Index Generator (SS-MIG) Module, shown in Figure 3a, software developed at LIM, capable of extracting source module patterns from XML files. Such patterns are extracted using a score segmentation algorithm [9]. In addition, it is possible to manually refine the output of the SS-MIG by adding, removing or modifying some of the patterns found by the SS-MIG.
