Note that with the notion of strides, an m-trie cannot support arbitrary-length prefixes. This problem is usually solved by transforming a prefix length into an equivalent length that can be supported by the strides of the m-trie.  For example, an m-trie with first stride of 4 bits does not allow prefixes with a length smaller than 4 bits. For instance, to look up a prefix 110* in the previous trie, the prefix is first expanded into two prefixes, 1100* and 1101*. An m-trie of stride s is a trie in which each node has 2s children.
