Murray Gell-Mann is likely one of the best physicists of the realm. He was once presented the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969 for his paintings at the category and symmetries of basic debris, together with the approximate SU(3) symmetry of hadrons. His checklist of courses is outstanding; a few his papers became landmarks in physics.

Note that with the notion of strides, an m-trie cannot support arbitrary-length prefixes. This problem is usually solved by transforming a prefix length into an equivalent length that can be supported by the strides of the m-trie. [5] For example, an m-trie with first stride of 4 bits does not allow prefixes with a length smaller than 4 bits. For instance, to look up a prefix 110* in the previous trie, the prefix is first expanded into two prefixes, 1100* and 1101*. An m-trie of stride s is a trie in which each node has 2s children.

These advanced applications and features make MPLS an attractive technology for building scalable and reliable networks. MPLS Label Lookup and Forwarding In a conventional IP network, forwarding decisions for a packet are made by performing an address lookup in the IP FIB to determine the next hop and the outgoing link. In an MPLS network, however, each LSR maintains a Label-Switching Information Base (LFIB) that is separate and distinct from the IP FIB. ) The LFIB table consists of entries of types such as next hop label forwarding entry (NHLFE), incoming label map (ILM), and FEC-to-NHLFE (FTN) map.

In particular, ATM switches can be easily adapted for MPLS because there is great similarity between ATM and MPLS forwarding procedures. For example, ATM forwarding is based on swapping virtual path identifier/virtual circuit identifier (VPI/VCI) fields in the cell header, whereas MPLS forwarding is based on swapping labels. Therefore, just encoding of labels in VPI/VCI fields without any modifications enables ATM forwarding to function as MPLS forwarding. However, to support MPLS, the ATM switch must also implement an MPLS control plane.
